![]() Now every time I need to print an envelope, I open the Envelope document, change the addressee, and print. I used the same envelope several times while I was using trial and error to find the correct settings. that are one per greeting, you can cut some paper to the same size as the envelope. If you're using specialty envelopes, i.e. You'll go through a few envelopes, but in the end it's worth it. This takes experimentation, but once you get everything set you never have to format an envelope again. I use Format/Page settings to set the size of the envelope and the margins. On my printer I have to load the envelope sideways but with the flap the opposite of what HP shows on the printer. Forget about inserting an envelope into the document. I've found that with most printers you have to start a normal document then format it manually to the envelope size, margins, and print orientation. I still wish I knew why it was changing the envelope's orientation spontaneously, though. I know where it's messing up now so at least I can get them to print properly regardless of which method I choose. I'll have to play with things and decide which of the two options I prefer. The next thing I noticed is that I have to tell the computer where to put the text on the envelope instead of doing it for me like it does with Insert -> Envelope. However, I figured out that I could modify the style so that only the first page shows as an envelope and the rest fall into Default formatting, which is what I want. Obviously, I don't want to print my letters on envelopes, so this appeared to be a problem. The first thing I noticed about the Envelope style is that it changed every page in my document to an envelope. ![]() I didn't realize at first that you were referring to it. I'd suggest you had a look at the use of styles and come back either to this thread or to a new one with queries. One can format an entire book in a small number of styles (often which one can accept from the built in styles) and with one or two minor changes reformat it in seconds. These Styles are the main power of OpenOffice, and where it is much better than Word they do take some getting used to. Right clicking on a style lets you Creat a New Style based on that, or Modify, or sometimes (if not a predefined style) Delete. The drop down at the bottom allows one to display various selections of styles - stick to All for a start. The little icons on top of the Styles and Formatting window (do I remember that someone callled it the Stylist?) allow you to access as follows:įrom left: Paragraph styles, Character Styles, Frame Styles, Page Styles and List Styles. Instead of simply editing the letters as I did previously, I must now create each new letter from scratch. This is highly annoying since I use a standard template for certain types of letters. I can think of no changes I have made to the computer that could cause this type of behavior. This behavior has started only within the last month. When I first installed my computer, this did not occur. If I save the document, reopen it, and edit the envelope, the envelope prints incorrectly.Įssentially, any and all printings of envelopes beyond the initial creation of said envelopes results in a piece of trash. If I save the document and reopen it, the envelope prints incorrectly. I have changed absolutely nothing since the first printing I have only printed again. If I print the document a second time, the data on the envelope appears in the opposite orientation. When I create a new document and insert an envelope, the envelope prints correctly. I am running OoO 3.1.0 on Windows Vista 64-bit.
